Homemade Apple Cinnamon Rolls

The perfect fall dessert! An apple and pecan filled cinnamon roll is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. Follow my recipe for your very own homemade apple cinnamon rolls.

Directions

1In a large bowl, combine yeast and warm water. Set aside for five minutes.

2Add in melted butter, milk, sugar, salt, egg and mix well with a wooden spoon.

3Add in the flour and mix until a dough forms.

4Knead for five minutes and place into a greased bowl. Cover with a towel and allow dough to rise for 45 minutes.

5While dough is rising, saute diced granny smith apples with 2 tablespoons butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and brown sugar. Cook for 5-7 minutes until apples are softened but not mushy. Set aside to cool.

6Turn dough out onto a well floured surface and roll out using a rolling pin into a rectangle shape that is about 15 by 9 inches.

7Brush dough with 2 tablespoons melted butter.

8Spoon apples evenly over the dough, spreading to the edges. Sprinkle with pecans.

9Carefully roll the dough into a spiral.

10Use a very sharp knife to cut the cinnamon rolls into 2 inch sections.

11Spray a 9x13 dish with cooking spray.

12Place cinnamon rolls in baking dish and allow to rise.

13Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

14Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.

15Make glaze by mixing together powdered sugar, vanilla and milk.

16Allow cinnamon rolls to cool and drizzle the glaze atop.

Dough

1 tablespoon active dry yeast

1/2 cup warm water

1/2 warm milk

1/3 cup melted butter

1/4 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

1 egg

3 3/4 cup all purpose flour

Filling

2 1/2 cups finely chopped, peeled, cored Granny Smith apples

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup chopped pecans

4 tablespoons butter, separated

Glaze

2 cups powdered sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons milk
